[xdm+ GUI] [Chooser GUI] [Download] [Summary]

xdm+ (Enhanced xdm)

xdm+ includes a friendlier user interface. It uses buttons for normal actions (the old mouse/keyboard actions are still available) and includes a help feature. It also adds help to the chooser.

[XDM+ GUI]

xdm+ GUI

The main GUI is similar to the old xdm UI, except that it now has buttons at the bottom which duplicate the effect of the "secret keystrokes".

[XDM+ Help]

xdm+ help

The help is fairly self-explanatory (as, hopefully, is the GUI!) This is primarily intended for novice and infrequent users, who are often afraid that doing the wrong thing will break something. It's also useful for generally clueless people who otherwise bug you for every detail of everything they do. 8^)

xdm+ resources

The resources are set in the Xresources file in the standard xdm directory. The new resources are documented there, as well as in the new xdmui(1) man page.

[Chooser GUI]

Chooser+ GUI

The chooser's GUI is basically the same as before except that a Help button has been added, and a more complete set of resources are provided (complete with widget hierarchy) in the Chooser resource file.

[Chooser Help]

chooser+ help

The help is fairly self-explanatory (not that this one is real complicated!) This is primarily intended for novice and infrequent users, who are often afraid that doing the wrong thing will break something. It's also useful for generally clueless people who otherwise bug you for every detail of everything they do. 8^)

chooser+ resources

The resources are set in the Xresources file in the standard xdm directory. The new resources are documented there, as well as in the new xdmui(1) man page.

Summary

In summary, with xdm+ and judicious use of graphics and resources, you can present your users with a nicer looking, much friendlier, login environment.
