Responsibilities: Responsibilities include management of IT team (size varied over time from 0 to to others) and for all data and voice functions, including the computer network and all computers (servers, desktops and laptops) both at headquarters and elsewhere, the phone system, and internet and phone system connections. I oversaw two major Linux operating system upgrades. The network includes a simulation farm of Linux systems, dozens of desktop Linux systems, Solaris systems, Macs and Windows systems. Management responsibilities include not only managing the team, but all IT budgetary and planning issues.

Vignette Corporation Austin, TX. Senior Software Engineer, Architect 3/2000 - 10/2001

Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities included design, development and documentation of applications based on Vignette's core platform. Initial work was with HTML and Tcl, but later work was with Java, JavaScript and HTML. Other responsibilities included some project management, debugging, maintenance, and some customer and sale support. Projects included e-commerce software, small applications for messaging and notification, and work on the VGM Global site (global.vignette.com) and the Enterprise Application Portal (EAP 2.0 and 2.1), Vignette's flagship applications.

Hire.com Austin, TX. Senior Web Guru, Product Services Group 2/1999 - 3/2000

Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities included maintenance, monitoring, enhancement and planning for web servers, related software, and web portions of e-Recruiter, modeling customer e-Recruiter sites to look like their web sites, short and long range planning, processes and procedures, and intranet support. Secondary responsibilities included all areas of IS, including helping out system administrators and the quality assurance group. We also worked closely with development, providing patches, assisting with design, and occasionally implementing new features.

Hire.com is an application service provider, whose flagship product, e-Recruiter, is a web-based application to help companies more easily recruit personnel and manage potential candidate relationships via the Internet.

IT Masters, Inc. Austin, TX. Senior Enterprise Developer, IT Manager 9/1997 - 2/1999

Responsibilities: Responsible for all aspects of Internet, intranet, network, systems and web planning, and overall responsibility for operations in those areas. Sole responsibility for productizing MasterVision (HTML, HTTP, Java, perl, cross-platform C code and Tivoli libraries). Responsible for several areas of MasterCell (MasterCell is a lightweight, distributed event server which scales better than TEC), including design and implementation of the event logging and recovery database, productization and portability of CLI commands, and all other phases of software production.

IT Masters provides software, consulting, integration and training services for Tivoli and Remedy customers.

Pencom Web Works Austin, TX. Senior Intranet Consultant 4/1996 - 9/1996

Responsibilities: Involved in all phases of business growth & development, including market assessment, sales technical support, requirements analysis, design, implementation, documentation, installation and training, related to corporate Intranets. Heavily involved with interviewing and hiring decisions. Co-Authored the first published Java AWT book, AWT Programming for Java (M&T / MIS Press). Developed the first GUI for Vignette's StoryServer product. Assisted in architecting Pencom's Intranet infrastructure.

Pencom Web Works provided Intranet services, distinguishing itself by applying project management and software engineering experience to the process.

Responsibilities: Requirements engineering, development, support, training, testing, productization, debugging, team lead, team manager.

During my career at PSW Technologies, I was an AIX Level 3 technical support engineer, an AIX Graphics PVT on-site manager, an X/Motif software developer, co-Xist (X11 for Nextstep) lead engineer, support engineer, and release engineer, porting engineer, technical lead on various projects, and webmaster.

PSW Technologies performs a wide variety of vendor services, porting and development services, and business systems re-engineering for most open computing environments.

SecureWare, Inc. Atlanta, Ga. Senior Software Engineer 5/1990 - 5/1991

Responsibilities: Design, development and documentation of user interfaces.

Primary engineer responsible for ASCII and Motif-based user interfaces for standard UNIX system administration and security enhancements for most major UNIX vendors including Apple, DEC, HP and OSF. Evaluated and selected user interface development tools. Assisted new users of X.

SecureWare adds security features to Unix and X.

Sales Technologies, Inc. Atlanta, Ga. Senior Software Engineer 4/1988 - 5/1990

Responsibilities: Project Management, User Interface development, Lead Engineer.

As lead software engineer, developed application generators under UNIX and X11 to interface with VMS and DOS systems. Responsible for all phases of project from requirements through installation and support. Wrote several new widgets for Athena widget set. Helped debug MIT's Athena widgets and the X Toolkit and intrinsics (X11R2 through X11R4). Beta tester for Sun's OpenWindows and Roadrunner (386i) system.

Sales Technologies produces sales force automation systems.

Process & Instrumentation Design, Inc. Marietta, Ga. Software Department Manager 5/1986 - 11/1987

Responsibilities: Technical and personnel management, project and team leadership.

Project scheduling and personnel issues. Developed review and salary guidelines. All phases of project development and delivery. Involved in consulting and custom software efforts for selected customers.

P&ID developed applications software for factory automation, using C under UNIX on various platforms.

Solid State Systems, Inc. Kennesaw, Ga. Software Engineer 3/1985 - 5/1986

Responsibilities: Software development, technical support.

Developed PBX/ACD telephone switching system software. Lead engineer responsible for developing a real-time DBMS. Enhanced and maintained switch, ACD queuing, system scheduling, file system, and software clock code.

Solid State produces telephone switches (PBX and ACD) and energy management control systems using C and assembly language on proprietary, Motorola and Zilog-based computers.

JHK & Associates, Norcross, Ga. Senior Systems Engineer 6/1981 - 3/1985

Responsibilities: Systems development, project management, personnel management.

Project management, including RFP evaluation, proposal preparation, requirements documentation, design, implementation, systems integration, documentation, installation, and training. Developed real-time event detection and control software, and color graphics, communications, and database management subsystems. Full hiring and salary authority for systems group.

JHK produces real-time traffic control systems and related traffic engineering packages in FORTRAN and C on a variety of hardware under various operating systems.
