Batty Bout Bats

Bats, bats,
Burning in the night.
With their gloves and balls and spikes,
Taking fiery flight.

Flaming, furry fangs and wings,
Handles wrapped in smoking black,
DiMaggio's signature etched in their skulls,
Cleaving the night near the outfield fence,
Setting fire to the park next door,
Carrying superheated rabies
To the slums and poor.

A little girl,
A mere 9 years old,
Carrying her headless doll,
A fan of Nolan Ryan,
Bitten and smitten with rabid fire,
Knocks a homer with a single scratch
On her slumlord's arm.

Bats, bats,
Burning in the night.
With their gloves and balls and spikes,
Taking fiery flight.
